Indian Cricket Team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni found himself among the list of Time Magazine's 100 most influential people in the world for the year 2010. The magazine rated him above football icon Lionel Messi and even US President Barack Obama. He become the only second sports indian sports personality to enter the list, previously Sachin Tendulkar had featured on the list.
The inclusion comes not even a month from India 's world cup win which Dhoni himself scripted with an unbeaten knock of 91. His inclusion seems fitting as can be proved from his record as a a captain and India's rise to number one team in Test Cricket and a World Cup win after 28 years. He was also instrumental in taking India to a win in the inaugral twenty-twenty world cup after India 's 2007 world cup debacle.
The Time Magazine has called him as the most likeable captain. He has also been an sited as an example where success has come in without any association with power or money but with excellence. The accompanied extract in the magazine was written by Chetan Bhagat, an Indian novelist.
